2015 Festival Underwriting

Dear SWFWW Supporters,

We need underwriters to help take good care of our presenters and boost advertising:

We are VERY close to the 2015 Southwest Festival of the Written Word! This is the time we come to you, the great citizens of grant County, to ensure we have the funds to do all we hope to accomplish to make this Festival even a greater success than our 2013 event. And you all know how much fun that one was!

We are featuring fifty presenters, some exciting newcomers to their genres and some well-established authors famous for their craft. We have lined up a big group of vendors to make a lively and fun Marketplace at the Murray Hotel. We have commissioned a special play from Virus Theater to honor our first Poet laureate, Bonnie Buckley Maldonado. WNMU, our partner, is hosting a book launch on Friday evening for JJ Amaworo Wilson’s new novel. And we have a gala dinner with entertainment at the University on Saturday night with all of our fine authors and presenters. We are marketing the festival in a three-state area this year, both with print ads and radio spots.

Our grant-writing team has been busy also. We have secured grants and gifts from our partners, WNMU, the NM Humanities Council, The New Mexico Department of Tourism, the Community Foundation of Grant County, and the Town of Silver City through the Lodgers Tax. Several business owners have already stepped up to take program ads and to sponsor speakers.

So, given all that good news, why are we coming to you? Additional tax-free donations are still needed: Some of our authors have to be transported from the East, despite them being Westerners. We need to underwrite our banquet plans and provide lunches. With more advertising dollars, the more visitors we can bring to our local economy.

A gift from you of any size will make short work of these last details. An easy form is attached for your use. We are also asking if you wish to volunteer for the festival.

Whatever you decide to do to help, we are most grateful. We hope you will be one of our Underwriters, and we hope to see you at the great events we are planning!

Mary E. Hotvedt and Jeannie A. Miller,  2015 SWFWW Co-Chairs
