River Trip Poetry Group
Tuesday, August 8, 10:00am-11:30am
TranquilBuzz Coffee House, 112 W. Yankie Street, Silver City

This ongoing experiential poetry group is open to all who enjoy a supportive and engaging environment in which to make connections, hone skills and share their literary art. The focus of these sessions is on both writing and reading. Writing exercises are offered by rotating facilitators selected within the group. All poetry forms are welcome. Organizers of this group are Elise Stuart and Stewart S. Warren. Sponsored by the River Chapter of New Mexico State Poetry Society.

Join a Shakespearean version of the Academy Awards where Falstaff wreaks havoc. A staged reading of Frost McGahey’s play that will entertain and inform you about the life Shakespeare and movies of his work. Directed by Wendy Spurgeon.
Menu: Soup or salad, meat or vegetarian lasagna, tiramisu and coffee.
Note: This is a private party for ticket holders. BYO wine or beer.
Tickets: $25.00 for dinner and the show.

On the third Saturday of each month, Tranquilbuzz Coffee House (corner of Texas and Yankie Streets) in collaboration with poet laureate Beate Sigriddaughter will host a Words and Music event, with featured authors followed by open mic. August 19 will feature Silver City’s second poet laureate Elise Stuart who will read from her brand new memoir My Mother and I, We Talk Cat. Lonesome Richard will provide music.

WNMU Lecture Series:
Susan McAllister and Naomi Natale, One Million Bones Project
Thursday, September 28, 2017, 6:30 PM
Light Hall Theater, WNMU

WNMU will host a lecture by Susan McAllister and Naomi Natale of the One Million Bones Project, which brings awareness to genocides and mass atrocities. It is a project of The Art of Revolution, an organization dedicated to leveraging the power of art to inspire activism. Art is an incredible tool with which to engage and mobilize communities around a specific social justice issue. It offers tangible a way for people to connect to things that are not presented to them daily.  This lecture is a free event, but seating is limited and tickets must be obtained in advance.
