Come to the Southwest Festival of the Written Word and plan to stay a few extra days.
There’s much to do in and around Silver City.
In October, the weather is balmy, the nights are filled with stars, the Gila National Forest and Gila and Aldo Leopold Wilderness areas are close by for all forms of outdoor recreation. Great restaurants. Friendly coffee shops. Intriguing art galleries. A small but unique university. A community rich in history and endowed with a diverse population that welcomes and invites visitors to take part in all the Silver City has to offer.
GETTING HERE
Silver City is in southwestern New Mexico, about 45 miles north of I-10, either from Lordsburg, NM or from Deming, NM. That being said….
One of the charms of Silver City is that it is easy to get to, but not that easy to get to! We are not too far from the interstate (I-10), bigger city airports (El Paso, Tucson, Albuquerque) or Amtrak service. This allows us to retain the unique, accessible but “slightly-out-of-the-way” quality that both residents and visitors value.
For directions on getting to Silver City and getting around once you’re here, take a look at the Visit Silver City page for planning your visit.
