On Friday, October 27, from 3:30-4:30 pm MDT, authors Steven F. Havill & Lif Strand will provide tips to avoid the fundamental mistakes that beginning writers make. They will also discuss the potential perils of self-publishing.

Havill is the author of 32 novels of the Southwest, from such publishers as Doubleday, Walker & Co., St. Martin’s Press,
Poisoned Pen Press, Sourcebooks, and the U.K.’s Severn House. His first novel was published in 1981, with the latest, No Accident, released in March 2022. He has also offered writing workshops in various venues around the Southwest, and for many years was an instructor for Writers’ Digest Novel and Advanced Novel writing workshops. He.has lived in the Datil, NM area since 2010. Previously, he lived in Milan, NM, where he taught at Grants High School; in Old Lincoln, NM, where he taught in Ruidoso Schools; and Ratón, NM. He completed Trinidad State’s Gunsmithing Program in Trinidad, CO., as well as teaching journalism at that college.
