The Silver City Public Library is offering an informal adult summer reading program. Community members are invited to pick up a sheet of book review slips, and write a very brief review of whatever they have been reading this summer. The Southwest Festival of the Written Word team is taking this opportunity to read books by local authors and by the authors joining us for the Festival in September! We’ll post some of our reviews here and on our Facebook page.
Here are some of the first reviews so far:
Fire Season by Philip Connors
Connors offers a compelling, detailed description of life as a wildfire lookout, including the tower and living space, the views, the mountains, the winds, the plants, the wildlife, and the precise way in which smoke emerges after a lightning strike. The reader has a chance to experience the solitude of the wilderness. Also includes excellent history of the Gila.

Endless River by Elizabeth Fackler
Based on a true kidnapping in Roswell, Fackler uses the Pecos River country to excellent advantage as she unravels life with a teenager and delivers a tale full of truth and suspense.
