The Rising Writers program, run by the non-profit group New Mexico Writers, gives unpublished or novice New Mexico authors a chance to spend time with an established writer in their genre. Professional authors share wisdom, answer questions, and offer encouragement to a group of 3-5 fledgling writers for 90 minutes in a local venue.

John Fayhee, outdoors writer and journalist, will be offering an in-person session on February 5, 4:00-5:30 p.m., in Silver City.

Fayhee was the editor of the Mountain Gazette and a longtime contributing editor at Backpacker magazine. A two-time Colorado Book Awards finalist, he has work published in Canoe & Kayak, the High Country News, Men’s Fitness, New Mexico Magazine, and many others. He is the author of thirteen books, most recently A Long Tangent (Mimbres Press, 2024).

New Mexico Writers invites interested participants to contact the organization to meet with John. Send an email to [email protected], copying in [email protected], with a brief statement of why you would like to take part in the session offered. The process involves no fee, no sample writing requirement, and no critiquing of manuscripts-in-progress. The applications work on a first-come-first-served basis. Applicants must be available to meet in person in Silver City, 4:00-5:30 p.m., February 5, 2025.
